The threat of a terror attack is something that’s sadly become rather the norm for all of us, no matter where we live in the world, but it’s certainly heartening to hear about brands and businesses taking steps to minimise the risks of this wherever possible.
The BBC has just reported that Manchester United has appointed a full time counter-terrorism manager, the first sports club in England to do so, as part of additional security measures being introduced at Old Trafford on match days.
Fans now have to undergo a search at turnstiles, while vehicles are checked as they enter the car parks as well – which may seem excessive to some, but don’t forget that a fake bomb was recently found in a toilet at the club’s game against Bournemouth in May last year, so vigilance is certainly a requirement these days… even if that bomb in question had been forgotten about by those in charge of a terror training exercise earlier that week.
Depending on the nature of your business, you might be inspired by this story to consider appointing your own counter-terrorism manager. If not, there are still ways in which you can protect yourself and your members of staff if you are concerned about the threat of terrorism in this country.
You could, for example, consider installing window film on the panes of glass in your building. The vast majority of injuries during a bomb blast are caused by flying glass, but this film serves to keep the glass in place in this instance, so injuries are minimised wherever possible.
